News and Announcements
In order to allow as many kids as possible to make practice, practices are now Monday and Thursday 12:00 to 2:00. Come ready to get better, but also to have fun.
I hope everyone is ready for a little baseball. The season is almost here and we will be having a Parent/Player meeting Sunday, January 6, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. at the Lockhart Little League fields (700 Carver Street, Lockhart, Texas 78644). This is an important meeting so everyone interested in playing with the Panthers should plan on attending if possible. If you know you can not make it but are interested in playing with the Panthers, please send an email to sanmarcospanthersbaseball [at] gmail [dot] com.
We will have more details at the meeting, but the basics for the season are:
1. Cost is $400.
2. Practices start January 15th.
3. Practices will generally be Tuesday and Thursday from noon-2:00pm at the Lockhart Little League fields.
4. We currently have approximately 20 games scheduled, and may add a few more.
5. First game is currently scheduled for Feb. 12, last game is April 13.
6. Most games will be played somewhere between Round Rock and San Antonio.
If cost is an issue for anyone, please contact us as we may be able to come up with sponsorships/scholarships/fundraisers to help out. Similarly, the only equipment you will generally need to supply is a baseball glove and cleats, and we can probably even help out with that if needed. Our goal is to make the Panthers accessible to all players who are interested in playing baseball, so please reach out if you are concerned about cost or equipment.
I am extremely pleased to officially announce that the San Marcos Panthers Baseball team will have three great coaches for the upcoming season. Coach Michael Rocha will lead the Panthers, and he will be assisted by Coach Jordan Etier and Coach Mark Etier.
Coach Rocha is a former All-American pitcher for the University of Oklahoma and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies following his senior year – a year that saw him post a 10-3 record and 1.75 era, set several school records, and earn his degree. Coach Rocha opted not to sign with the Phillies, but instead returned to OU as part of the staff, serving as a Graduate Assistant Coach. Coach Rocha is a Central Texas native, having been born in Austin and graduating from Hays High School as an All-State pitcher. Coach Rocha now lives in the Lockhart area with his wife. And God willing, the Rocha’s will welcome into their home a baby girl – their first – who is due before the season arrives. Coach Rocha is also a trained paramedic and works in private security, ensuring the boys will be in good hands.
Coach Jordan is a lifetime Longhorn, earning three Big 12 Championships and two College World Series appearances as an infielder for legendary coach Augie Garrido. Coach Jordan earned his bachelor of science degree in applied learning and development from UT, and has been coaching youth baseball in the Austin area since 2012. Coach Jordan played his high school baseball at Westlake HS, where he was a three year varsity letter winner and three time All-District selection.
Coach Mark – Jordan’s dad – is also a former collegiate baseball player, first at McLennan Community College and then TCU. While at TCU, Coach Mark led the team in batting, generally batting in the third or fourth spot. Coach Mark was the first student at Westlake HS to play Division I baseball and was also a nine time letter winner in four different sports. Over the years, Coach Mark has coached many select teams to state and national championships, including a team that won the Cooperstown World Series.
On a personal note, I will share that my son has played on a team coached by Coach Jordan and Coach Mark for the past year (and my nephew has been on the team for several years). Without a doubt, Coach Jordan and Coach Mark run the most efficient and productive practice that I have ever seen, and my son has improved dramatically under their tutelage. I can also say that their demeanor both at practice and during games is the most positive and encouraging that I have ever witnessed – far more so than my own.
I really cannot express how excited I am that Coach Rocha, Coach Jordan, and Coach Mark have agreed to lead the Panthers in this, our inaugural season!
San Marcos Panthers Baseball is a Christian organization of homeschool families in the Central Texas area that offers competitive baseball to high school students. The 2019 baseball season will be the first year we are fielding a homeschool baseball team, but we look forward to providing another baseball option for homeschool kids from Kyle, San Marcos, Buda, Lockhart, Luling, New Braunfels, Seguin, and throughout the Central Texas area.
Our primary purpose is to develop young men with Godly character, which we will seek to accomplish through lessons learned on the baseball diamond. We desire that everything we do honors God and is above reproach.
Participants are not required to be a Christian, but as an organization, we will include prayer and Scripture in all practices, games, and tournaments. Every player must actively participate in these activities.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24
The 2019 Spring Season will be the first season for the San Marcos Panthers baseball team. We are hoping to have enough players to field both a varsity and a junior varsity team. If you are interested in learning more, please fill out this form-.
